Arkia has announced that it has signed an agreement with the Jewish Agency to transport new immigrants from all over the world to Israel. Arkia will replace El Al, following the refusal of the Agency to accept the 5 percent tariff demanded by El Al .
Arkia has concluded a deal with the Jewish Agency to transport new immigrants to Israel. During December it is expected that new immigrants from Ukraine will arrive in Israel via Arkia’s new scheduled service that recently began operations. During the last year a total of 15,875 new immigrants arrived in Israel.
During next month about one thousand new immigrants are expected to arrive on Arkia flights from Paris. The company has already announced that it will allow these passengers to fly with an excess baggage allowance.
According to a recent announcement, as part of the renewal of contracts between the parties, El Al demanded an additional 5 percent from the Jewish Agency to the flight tariff, something that the Agency refused. As a result of this, the Jewish Agency requested alternative quotations, and select the offer from Arkia to transport new immigrants. El Al refused to comment on this matter.
However a question still arises of how new immigrants will reach Israel from long distance destinations, such as South America, places where Arkia does not fly.
Gadi Tepper, CEO of Arkia said:”We welcome the opportunity to be part of the Zionist enterprise of the Jewish Agency and hope that the number of new immigrants will continue to grow progressively.”
