Antitrust commissioner approves agreement between Arkia and C.A.L

Ronit Kan, director of the Antitrust Authority, decided to approve the agreement between C.A.L and Arkia, that allowing for the purchase of cargo space on Arkia’s passenger flights, on the grounds that it will not harm the competition.

The Antitrust Authority approved the arrangement between Arkia and C.A.L allowing for the cargo company to purchase cargo space on Arkia passenger aircraft for a period of two years, on flights from Israel to a number of destinations in Europe and in Western Asia.  According to Ronit Kan, checks showed that the agreement will not result in any harm to the competition, because in the area of freight transportation in Israel there are a significant number of competitors.

“Examination of the total capacity carried by C.A.L shows that even with the small increase in freight that will be carried as a result of the agreement will not have an impact on the competition in those markets; as a result the decision is to allow the agreement,” argued the commissioner.

C.A.L is a private company, owned by the Organisation of Agricultural Co-operatives that represents the kibbutzim and moshavim in Israel and is responsible for transporting fresh agricultural produce and industrial materials and the imports of heavy machinery, automobiles, industrial and scientific equipment.
