October at Ben Gurion Airport: US once again the leading destination

According to the data from the Israel Airports Authority, a total of 1,109,947 passengers passed through Ben Gurion Airport during October on 8,225 international and domestic passenger flights.  International passenger traffic stood at 1,068,906 in October, this represents a 1.52 percent increase compared to October 2008.

International aircraft movements during the month stood at 7,650 an increase of 5.37 percent compared to the same month last year. There were a total of 41,041 passengers on domestic flights compared to 38,965 in October 2008, an increase of 5.32 percent.

Israeli airlines flew a total of 441,094 passengers during the month; this comprised 41.26 percent of all passenger traffic passing through Ben Gurion Airport and was an increase of 11.73 percent compared to October 2008.  Of the leading airlines that operated at the airport during the month, Alitalia, El Al and bmi recorded the biggest increases in activity.

Among the foreign airlines, Lufthansa recorded an increase of 17 percent; Turkish Airlines increased by 12 percent, Continental Airlines recorded an increase of 4.5 percent and Delta Airlines an increase of 4.35 percent.

The main destination for take offs and landing was London Heathrow, with a total of 71,547 passengers, an increase of 36.74 percent compared to last October.

The country with the greatest volume of traffic was the United States, with 126,824 passengers, comprising 11.86 percent of all activity.  Among the countries with the largest increases in passenger traffic in comparison to last October was Poland.
