British Airways has been forced to reduce the number of seats on the route to Tel Aviv, by operating two Boeing 767 aircraft instead of the traditional Boeing 777. British Airways: “Despite the change of aircraft type, the cabin alignment will remain the same.”
As a result of the discounted air fares on the Tel Aviv to London route and the fierce competition with the entry of EasyJet, as of 25th October British Airways was forced to reduce the number of seats by 15 percent. The main significance of this change is giving up on the first class service and retaining three classes only.
Until now British Airways had operated the Boeing 777 aircraft on the morning flight only, while the early evening flight with lower demand had operated the Boeing 767. But with the start of the winter season, the airline has changed to aircraft with 40 less seats on both daily flights.
According to Yael Katan, commercial manager of British Airways in Israel, the desire exists to reinstate the 777 for the morning flight.
A spokesperson for British Airways responded that the company was acting like all other airlines in making seasonal adjustments in aircraft type in order to suit the necessary demand. it was stressed that despite the change in aircraft type, the cabins remain the same and that the change would only be in force for the upcoming winter
Last month bmi announced the reduction in the number of weekly flights to Israel from 14 to 12.
