Preliminary reports released by the Israel Airports Authority revealed that international passenger traffic in October was 1.5 percent higher than in October 2008. Since the start of the year international passenger traffic fell by 6 percent.
During October a total of 1,068,121 passengers passed through Ben Gurion Airport, this compared with 1,052,823 in the corresponding month last year. It should be noted that the Succoth holiday, a traditionally busy holiday period fell during October.
Between January and October a total of 9,072,344 passengers passed through Ben Gurion Airport, this compared with 9,667,726 passengers in the same period in 2008, a fall of 6 percent.
Internal flights in October recorded a growth of 5.3 percent compared to October 2008, a 12 percent increase since the start of the year, with a total of 330,450 passengers. Nevertheless, internal aircraft movement fell by 36 percent in October and 25 percent overall since the start of the year.
In total international and internal passenger traffic during October rose by 1.6 percent compared to last October but was down by 5.5 percent since the start of the year.
