Minister of Transport Katz has appointed Shmuel Kandel(60), VP of Engineering and planning from the Israel Airports Authority as director of Ben Gurion Airport. The board of directors of the Airports Authority approved the appointment after receiving the recommendation of the selection committee.
Shmuel Kandel will replace Zeev Sarig who has held the post for the last five years. During the last four months Kandel served as acting director of Ben Gurion Airport.
During his 22 years of service at the Airports Authority, Kandel performed a wide range of professional and managerial roles, in engineering and planning and for a year and a half successfully managed the Ben Gurion 2000 project.
Kandel was a pilot in the Air Force and served for 11 years in the Israel Aircraft Industries, most of that time as a test flight engineer.
Minister Katz indicated that Kandel would be able to contribute from his extensive experience in the field of aviation to advance the expansion plans of the Airports Authority. These plans are intended to improve the security level and quality of the services at Ben Gurion Airport.
