The Minister of Tourism will host a special conference, which will be attended by all of the relevant bodies in the tourist industry, with the aim of presenting operational recommendations to improve the Israeli tourist product and to strengthen cooperation between all of the elements in the industry.
A conference of tourism professionals will take place on 5th November at the Dan Accadia Hotel in Herzliya and will include instruction sessions on relevant predefined subjects.
Minister Misezhnikov, who initiated the conference, decided that improving the Israeli tourist product and a desire to provide a more professional service to the tourist, requires the examination of basic assumptions of the industry on the grounds that it has failed to make the most of the unfulfilled potential.
“The Israeli tourist industry has failed to use its relational advantages compared to other countries in the region or in relation to other countries in the world and has not exhausted its unfulfilled potential for the benefit of the Israeli economy,” stated the minister. According to Misezhnikov, in the last decade there hasn’t been a significant breakthrough in the field of tourism and therefore this requires new thinking by all elements within the industry in examining the basic assumptions which guide the industry, for the sake of implementing the new perennial work plan of the ministry.
He also said that harnessing all of the elements in the tourist industry with a common purpose, with a clear division of responsibilities, is the key to the success of the tourist industry and of the Israeli economy.
It is no secret that the Minister of Tourism is dissatisfied with Israel’s tourism figures. The significant fall in the number of tourists visiting Israel, as well as the number of hotel nights is not a reason to be happy. At the forthcoming conference, Misezhnikov is expected to gather the country’s tourist representatives in order to discuss ways of increasing the contributions raised by the industry to the economy for the economic agenda of the country.
Among those expected to attend the conference will be the Coordination Office of the tourist industry, the Small & Medium Enterprises Authority, the Israel Hotels Association, the Incoming Tour Operators Association, the Travel Agents Association, the Airports Authority, the panel of foreign airlines, El Al, Israir, Arkia and others.
