Austrian Airlines has announced that it will pay travel agents an additional 3 percent commission on the sale on the higher travel class tickets. Eli Messer, head of Austrian Airlines in Israel: “This is a commercial decision whose aim is to encourage the business sector.”
Austrian Airlines has informed travel agents that it intends to pay basic commission of 10 percent on the sale of air tickets for classes Y,B,M,C,D,J and on business class tickets. The price of tickets in these classes on the Tel Aviv to Vienna route will be as an example $759 excluding taxes on stays of two days.
In a message to travel agents it was written that the validity of this offer is for the months of November and December on flights departing only from Tel Aviv. The aim of this deal, according to Eli Messer, head of Austrian Airlines in Israel, is to encourage the flow of business traffic and lure them to Austrian Airlines.
In the last few days, following the decision by the Restrictive Trade Practices Controller, El Al discontinued its code share agreement with Austrian Airlines.
According to Messer, it is still too early to know what impact this decision will have on the type and quantity of ticket sales for the airline, but estimates that the current offer is designed to increase ticket sales on ongoing flights to long haul destinations.
In an interview given to Educational Travel during the recent holyday period, he commented that during the coming winter, Austrian Airlines expected a growth of 5-10 percent in passenger traffic.
