Arkia has announced that it has been forced to cancel all of its scheduled flights to Georgia, this as a result of the decision of the Georgian Aviation Authority to prevent the Israeli airline from landing in the country. Arkia: “Passengers are requested to contact the telephone help desk.”
About 10 days ago the aviation agreement between the Israeli and Georgian aviation authorities was renewed with agreement of all conditions that would allow for the continuation of scheduled flights between the two countries.
According to Arkia, for reasons unknown to them, the Georgian Aviaition Authority decided that it would not respect the new agreement, so for now the company is compelled to cancel its two scheduled flights to the country. In response, the Israel Aviation Authority will not allow Georgian airlines from landing in Israel until the crisis is resolved.
Gadi Tepper, Arkia’s CEO, said in response: “Unfortunately it is unclear to us why the agreement signed 10 days ago has not been honoured. Arkia will do everything in its power to fly its passengers via alternative routes.”
