El Al increase fares as winter season approaches

El Al has announced that in light of the increase in the price of aviation fuel in the last month, which touched a high of $81 a barrel, it is to increase its fuel surcharge. Eli Cohen: “The continuing trend of increasing aviation fuel prices compels us to add an additional fuel surcharge.”

El Al has announced the introduction of an additional fuel surcharge that will come into force from Thursday 29th October 2009.  Tickets purchased and paid for up to that time will be charged at the existing rate. The additional fuel surcharge will not be applied on bonus tickets realized by members of the Matmid frequent flyers club.

El Al will update the surcharge by an amount of between $10 and $23 per leg of a flight. On short haul flights the price will be increased by $10, on medium haul flights by $17 and on long haul flights by $23.

According to the company, fuel prices are about 100 percent higher than they were for the first four months of 2009 and 20 percent higher than during the spring.  Eli Cohen, Vice President of Commercial & Aviation Connections for El Al said: “The continuing trend of increasing prices for aviation fuel compels us to add an additional fuel surcharge, as is being done throughout the aviation industry.”

“In addition”, added Cohen, “we will continue to be the leader in Israel in launching attractive and innovative marketing offers for the benefit and pleasure of our passengers.”
