Ethiopian Airlines will in the coming days add an additional weekly flight, the fifth on the route between Addis Ababa and Tel Aviv. The new flight will leave Israel every Thursday, departing at 00:20 and arriving in the Ethiopian capital at 05:50.
Ethiopian Airlines will operate its fifth weekly flight, on aircraft type Boeing 737, one of the latest aircraft that recently went into operation. The flight will offer 138 economy and 16 business class seats. For the remaining flights throughout the week, Ethiopian Airlines also flies on aircraft type Boeing 757.
Thursday’s flight will join the other weekly flights that operate on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Israeli representative for the company explained that the decision to increase the capacity to Israel was accepted on the background of increasing demand for flights to destinations in Africa and the launch of new destinations such as Mombasa (Kenya), Monrovia (Liberia) and Conakry (Guinea).
Ethiopian Airlines recently reported an annual profit of 1.3 billion Ethiopian Birr for the financial year 2008/9 ending last June. This profit was 2.5 times larger than recorded in the previous year and was thanks to the growth in passenger traffic.
The company also reported on the purchase of 17 new aircraft from Boeing and Airbus with the aim of increasing its long haul capacity.
