The Israeli representative of Greek airline Olympic Air, has proposed to the company's new management to operate flights from Israeli to the Greek Islands. Sadikario: “It is possible that by next summer Olympic will operate scheduled or charter flights.”
The Greek airline, Olympic Air, may begin flights from Tel Aviv to the Greek Islands from the summer of 2010. Olympic, which began operating under new ownership, the Marfin Investment Group, is interested in marketing holiday packages in order to increase tourist traffic during the peak season of the year.
“The management of Olympic has not rejected the idea and has even expressed great interest,” revealed Isaac Sadikario, chief Israeli representative for the company. According to Sadikario, Olympic might well implement a program for scheduled or charter flights.
The Greek company, which at the end of September went into private ownership, has not hidden its intention to identify new holiday destinations to which the airline can operate. The Marfin Investment Group which has invested $1.1 billion is anxious to renew the company’s fleet of aircraft and will give up unprofitable routes.
Sadikario explained that there is a strategic plan to make the airline a regional one and to eliminate its long haul flights and an agreement was signed with other airlines, for example such as the one with Delta Airlines.
