Ministry of Tourism: 8,000 Christians expected to celebrate Succoth in Jerusalem

About 8,000 Christians from 100 countries from around the world, headed by the World Evangelical Organisation will arrive in Israel in the coming days in order to take part in the Succoth (Feast of Tabernacles) festivities, under the auspices of the International Christian Embassy, supported by the Ministry of Tourism.

The Ministry of Tourism announced that as part of the Succoth gathering that takes place between 3rd and 8th October, thousands of Christian pilgrims are expected to arrive in Israel from Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Austria, India, Italy, Nigeria and many other countries.

In addition, large groups of pilgrims will arrive from Brazil (upwards of 1,000 pilgrims), from Finland and from Norway. During the week the pilgrims will visit religious sites throughout the country, will take part in the Jerusalem march and participate in seminars, lectures and workshops. The Ministry of Tourism will assist and accompany the assembly and will operate an information booth at the Binyanei Hauma in Jerusalem, where brochures will be distributed to the pilgrims highlighting the different attractions in Israel.

According to Minister of Tourism, Stas Misezhnikov, Christian tourism to Israel, with its different strands, is one of the main targets which the Ministry of Tourism is concentrating the greatest marketing efforts in an attempt to strengthen tourist flow to Israel.

The pilgrims are expected to stay in Israel about a week, their contribution to the tourist industry approximately 56,000 hotel nights.  It is estimated that the overall revenue from the festivities will total some $16-$18 million.
