Swiss CEO in Israel: No signs of recovery from the global aviation crisis

Avner Gordon, the manager of Swiss International in Israel is of the opinion that the crisis in the aviation industry is still far from over: “There is a new trend that says that the recovery is underway, unfortunately this is too optimistic.  Corporations are the ones with their fingers on the pulse and they will be the ones who will know when the recovery arrives.”

During a conference held at the offices of Lachish Tours – representatives of the HRG group, on managing trends in business tourism, the manager of Swiss International in Israel said that airlines had been forced to offer air tickets at embarrassing prices, in order obtain cash. “The global aviation industry is in a crisis, the likes of which haven’t been seen since 1930,” reminded Gordon, “the airlines have been left with no choice.”

According to Gordon, the airlines will in the near future be compelled to think of solutions to improve efficiency, such as mergers and cooperation agreements in order to return to profitability. Gordon: “The world of business travel has changed completely and won’t be able to predict when the next crisis will arrive. Recovery? Regretfully at the moment the forecasts are far too optimistic.”

Gordon is of the opinion that the new trend is that businesses and their customers are the ones with their fingers on the pulse and will notice the recovery. “Air cargo is the most accurate measure of the existence of the crisis, since the start of the recession, cargo traffic has fallen by tens of percent.”

He also added: “Airlines are continuing to look for ways to become more efficient but those who are still living in the past will not benefit in the future. In the next 3 years airlines around the world will be supplied with another 3,000 aircraft making up 17 percent of the world’s aircraft fleet, this is a commitment to be taken for the good years to come, despite the current difficult period, there is no option but to face up to it.
