El Al to increase capacity by 12% during high holydays

El Al is preparing to fly thousands of tourists to and from Israel with the approach of the Jewish New Year and the high holydays.  Cohen: “As is the tradition we will be increasing flights to destinations in Europe, especially to London, Paris and Italy.”

El Al announced the addition of another 25,000 seats on flights to New York, Bangkok, London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Athens and Kiev.  This represents an increase of 12 percent compared to last year.  The company estimates that about 200,000 Israelis are expected to fly overseas during September and October.

El Al also estimates another 40,000 tourists are expected to arrive in Israel during September, most of them from New York, London, Paris and Italy.  Most of the visitors will be Jewish tourists and pilgrims from North and South America and Western Europe.

According to Eli Cohen, Vice President of Commercial & Industrial Affairs at El Al, the period of the high holydays is a period when hundreds of thousands of Israelis travel overseas and as a result El Al will increase seating capacity to meet the large demand.  El Al will also increase ground services at Terminal 3 and at its overseas destinations.

Cohen added that El Al will also be operating about 30 flights to and from New York between Yom Kippur and the Succoth festivals.
