El Al raises the price of long haul flights

El Al has announced an increase in the price of its long haul direct flight to Sao Paolo and to other destinations in South America from 2nd August.  El Al: “Until recently, despite the continuing increase in the cost of aviation fuel, we had avoided raising the price of airline tickets to South America.”

El Al, compared to other destinations, had until now avoided raising the prices of its air tickets to South America, for fear of losing out to competitors; but has announced that from 2nd August it will add a fuel surcharge of $40 in each direction, as well as increasing the basic price of the air ticket by 5 percent.

“Those passengers wanting to enjoy the benefit of the current price are requested to purchase their tickets before the updated price comes into effect,” reported a spokesperson for the company.  “The updated full surcharge will not be applicable on bonus tickets for the Matmid frequent flyer program.”

In total, the price of a ticket will increase by $165 on flights to South America, North America, South Africa and the Far East.

El Al launched the service to Sao Paolo at the beginning of May 2009 and declared that in light of demand, the company wanted to increase the frequency of flights from 3 to 6 per week.  Vice President of Commercial & Industrial Affairs, Eli Cohen at the launch of the service stressed the great potential on the route.
