Tiberias: the dirtiest tourist city in Israel

Tiberias has the dubious honor of being ranked as the dirtiest tourist city in Israel.  This according to a survey organized by the Tour Guides Association and is intended to check the readiness of the main tourist cities for the peak summer tourist season.

According to the findings of the survey that was conducted with the cooperation of one hundred tour guides in Israel, the cleanest city in Israel is the city of Haifa, ranked first among cities including Eilat, Tel Aviv, Safed, Acre, Jerusalem, Nazareth and Tiberias. The tour guides pinpointed the smallest number of dirty locations in Haifa – 203 compared to 370 points identified in Tiberias.

The cities of Eilat and Tel Aviv were ranked second and third respectively and following on from them were Nazareth and Jerusalem. “It is sad to have to say it, but in fact Jerusalem, the main tourist city in Israel and our window to the rest of the world, received the most complaints from tourist groups regarding dirt and squalor,” reported the Association.

According to the chairman of the Israel Tour Guides Association, Yaakov Mitrani, from the moment that the mass of tourists arrive, it is the obligation of the mayors of the main tourist cities to worry about the cleanliness of the sites within their domain.

Tour guides escorting tourist groups will continue to be the sensors for the tourist industry in Israel, leading to an improvement in the tourist product, cultivating the image of Israel and helping to increase the number of tourists coming to Israel”, said Mitrani.
