Sun d’Or cancels flights to Southern Russia as the dispute goes on

Sun d’Or has announced that because of the refusal of the Russian authorities to provide suitable approvals, they have been forced to cease their planned flights to Sochi and Rostov in Russia until the 30th July.  The head of the Israel Civil Aviation Authority, Giora Romm is currently in Russia with the aim of finding a solution to the problem.

Two weeks ago, Sun d’Or was forced to cancel its flights to southern Russia cities because of the refusal of the local government to approve Israel’s security requests.  Because there has been no progress with the talks, the company has announced their decision to cancel flights until the end of the coming month.

“We hope to restart the flights with receipt of the relevant authorizations. The Ministry of Transport is working to receive these from the Russian authorities,” said Bezalel Karvat, CEO of Sun d’Or.

The director general of the Civil Aviation Authority, Giora Romm, who is currently in Russia, said that that at the moment there is no way out, because one of the reasons that caused Arkia and Sun d’Or to cancel their flights to Sochi, Rostov and Krasnodar, is that the Russian authorities are presenting demands of the type that are unacceptable in the field of aviation worldwide.

“Aviation links between us and Russia are very important; however they are making it difficult for us with all of the bureaucracy that is being imposed on Israeli airlines,” he said.
