Israir: Revival in Israelis traveling overseas

Dori Shoshan, VP of Marketing at Israir indicated that despite the fall in the number of passengers traveling to Turkey this summer, a revival in bookings is expected.  Shoshan: “Ultimately there is no complete substitute for Turkey, although this year there are other destinations for the Israeli holidaymaker to choose.”

Leading up to the beginning of the peak season for outgoing tourism, Shoshan estimates that with reductions in the price of flights and holiday packages compared to last year, this will lead to an increase in reservations to the classic European cities.  He said that there was a revival in the number of of Israeli holidaymaker expected to visit Russia, most likely as a result of the cancellation of visa requirements and the increasing number of flights.

“As opposed to previous years in which Turkey was the preferred holiday destination for summer holidays, it seems that this year there are different destinations  in the list of priorities for the Israeli holidaymaker,” commented Shoshan.

Avivit Peleg, Manager in the field of Tour Organizers for Israir added that prices had fallen by 20 percent compared to last year, as a result of the economic recession and the fall in demand in tourism worldwide.

Shay Marina, VP of commerce and planning for the Israir group, estimated that despite the recession, more than a million Israelis were expected to travel abroad this coming summer.
