Louisa Varaclas, director of the Cyprus Tourism Organization in Israel, estimates that about 30,000 Israelis will spend their summer holidays in Cyprus. This would represent an increase of 10 percent on last year.
The representative of the Cyprus Tourism Organization in Israel estimates that the number of Israeli tourists visiting Israel will grow by 10 percent this summer, despite the expected slowdown in tourism. According to Louisa Varaclas, in addition to the 30,000 Israelis who visit Cyprus as their final destination, they also expect some 60,000 Israelis to visit the island as part of Mediterranean cruise packages.
Varaclas said that during this summer season there will be 15 scheduled weekly flights from Israel to Cyprus, in addition to dozens of charter flights. Varaclas also added that with the expected demand, many hotels in Cyprus are offering all inclusive packages, suitable for families with children while all of the 4 and 5 star hotels in Cyprus will provide activity programs.
Although tourist traffic between Israel and Turkey has slumped in the recent months, there has not been a significant increase in the number of Israelis travelling to Cyprus. The main reason is that holiday prices to Cyprus are higher than those in Turkey.
According to Varaclas, in light of the world economic recession, the Cyprus Tourism Organization will invest to prevent holiday prices and attractions on the island from becoming more expensive. Additionally Cyprus is able to offer golf and spa hotels, to provide cheaper family hotels and apartments for youngsters.
