Ofer Kisch, manager director of Lufthansa in Israel asked to respond to the recent speech delivered by Amit Livni, Head of Marketing for El Al, who accused foreign airlines of operating additional flights to Israel on the pretense of bringing tourists to Israel, but were instead carrying more Israeli passengers.
“In my opinion Livni’s assumptions are hard to understand,” said Kisch, adding “Specifically at this time an airline that is based on only flying only Israelis cannot survive.” Kisch, CEO of Lufthansa, the largest foreign airline in Israel with 18 weekly flights on routes between Tel Aviv and Germany, revealed that 60 percent of its passengers on the routes to Israel were foreign tourists and businesspersons.
During his speech at the Utravel conference, Amit Livni, El Al’s head of marketing promised that El Al would not hesitate to take aggressive measures in order to provide its customers with the best service. In the meantime it has launched a new deal for its Matmid club members offering lower prices in combination with membership points on the routes to Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt.
According to Kisch, Lufthansa’s has a broad mix of passenger with both Germans and travelers from other European countries.
