El Al says foreign airlines not bringing tourists to Israel

While delivering a speech to suppliers of Utravel, Amit Livni the Head of Marketing for El Al said that foreign airlines were flying mostly Israelis and not foreign tourists.  He said that the supply of seats from foreign airlines had increased by 86 percent and that El Al had no intention of give up on any of its passengers.

During a speech to senior members of the Utravel group, Amit Livni, head of marketing for El Al, reviewed the company’s policies against the increased capacity of the foreign airlines and accused the state of Israel of allowing them to operate freely and without participating in the security costs.

He said “foreign airlines fly to Israel on the pretense of bringing tourists, but in reality they are flying more Israelis.” According to him El Al has taken aggressive steps in order to provide its customers with the best possible service.

Reviewing the new routes that El Al opened to London and South America, Livni said that El Al will continue to launch new routes when required in order to increase its worldwide coverage.  He added that the new route to London Luton Airport complemented the existing services to London, by ensuring that El Al provided for every type of passenger, thus competing with British Airways and bmi.  He declared that the competition was fierce but that El Al was meeting the challenge.

In response to increased prices, Livni praised the offer launched in cooperation with Daka 90 and called on other agents and wholesalers to launch similar deals.  “There are many variables that affect the profitability of an airline and we must continue to provide such deals.”
