With the height of the summer season approaching, Ariel Tuval the manager of Hertz private sector has warned Israeli tourists travelling to Europe, of the importance of making car rental reservations well ahead of time. This is as a result of the worldwide economic recession which has led to rental companies reducing their fleets. Tuval commented “This summer, reservations for car rental will be closed earlier than expected.”
According to Tuval it will be particularly difficult for Israelis when searching for car rental, especially in Europe. Tuval added that the main difficulties were likely to be encountered in Spain, France and Holland. More recently they had been advised that in Greece the demand for car rental was outstripping supply. He commented that car rental stocks had been reduced as a result of the recession and because the Israeli and European holiday seasons overlapped it was forcing the Israeli tourist to arrange car rental well ahead of time.
In the opinion of Hertz, there had been a significant recovery from the Israeli market since the Passover holiday, with the main destination of Israeli tourists being western European countries, especially Italy and Holland.
Tuval said that as a result of the recession, customers were economizing by choosing a less fancy vehicle for rental. He said that on average the Israeli customer rental was for between 5 to 7 days with most choosing a family vehicle.
