BA cancels weekly flight to Tel Aviv

British Airways announced the cancellation of their new weekly flight on the Tel Aviv to London route from 1st July.  The service was due to start operating from the beginning of June.   British Airways had only recently announced details of this additional Friday flight.

During March, British Airways announced the addition of an extra flight on the London to Tel Aviv route. The flight from London to depart from Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 on Thursday afternoon with the return flight to London departing Tel Aviv on Friday lunchtime. This flight time would allow religious travelers plenty of time to arrive in London in time for the start of the Sabbath.

While the new flight is yet to start its service, British Airways will operate the four weekly flights during June, before the service is cancelled from the beginning of July.

According to Yael Katan, Marketing Manager for British Airways in Israel, the seating capacity on the London-Tel Aviv route is greater than in the same period last year and exceeds market demand.  She explained “We don’t see any value in continuing to operate an unprofitable flight.”

Following the announcement from British Airways, there will still be 7 direct flights between London and Tel Aviv every Friday, 2 from British Airways, 2 from bmi and 3 from El Al, including one flight to Luton Airport.  Additionally there are connecting flights to London on foreign airlines from a number of different European airports.
