El Al to double flights to Cairo

Despite the current world economic recession, El Al is planning to double their flight schedule to the Egyptian capital in order to satisfy the demands of pilgrims who include both Egypt and Israel in their visits to the Middle East.

The schedule of two weekly flights, one on a Sunday the other on a Thursday, have been insufficient to meet the demands on the Tel Aviv to Cairo route.  As a result, El Al has decided to double their flight schedule to four times a week.  The additional flights to Cairo will depart Tel Aviv every Monday and Wednesday.

Haim Romano, President of El Al said that the decision of the company was taken in order to satisfy the requirements of pilgrims who wish to combine a trip to Israel with a visit to Egypt. “The additional flights will allow groups of pilgrims from North and South America to choose a more varied choice of holiday package to the region. It will also help to satisfy the demands of business travelers.”

Following an expected increase in tourism from China, Romano added that the two additional weekly flights to Cairo would be scheduled to fit in with flight arrivals and departures from Beijing.

The El Al president recently met with representatives of South American airlines, in order to cooperate on increasing the number of pilgrimages to Israel.  El Al will begin their first direct service between Tel Aviv and Sao Paolo in Brazil at the beginning of May.
