ACI’s rankings were based on the results of 200,000 questionnaires completed by travelers’ at108 airports, covering all four quarters of 2008. The survey covered 30 different components, from the moment of arrival at the airport until boarding the plane. The survey was carried out on every day of the week and during every month of the year to ensure full coverage of each season.
This is the second consecutive year that Ben Gurion Airport has been ranked as the number one airport in the Middle East and ranked second in the category of airports with 5-15 million passengers. According to the Israel Airports Authority (IAA) this important rating from an internationally recognized airports organization places Ben Gurion Airport among the top tier of airports in the world.
The top three airports were Incheon International Airport in South Korea, Singapore Changi Airport and Hong Kong International Airport. Following the results, Kobi Mor, Director General of the IAA, said that 2008 was a record year for operational activity at Ben Gurion Airport and that even on the day when 60,000 passengers, a record number for the airport, passed through, the travelling experience was a pleasant one in every possible way. “The significant financial investment in large projects that the authority is planning to implement in the areas of safety, security and service, will further improve the passenger’s traveling experience.
In the last year 3.7 billion shekels was allocated by the council of the IAA towards investment in areas of safety, security and service for travelers. In 2008 more than 11 million passenger, a record, passed through Ben Gurion Airport.
