Minister of Tourism Ruhama Avraham called on hoteliers to make their packages more attractive by including other attractions and benefits. The owners of small hotels in the north replied that they intended to act on this matter.
For the 3,500 guest houses that operate in the north, the fall in occupancy has been minimal compared to the previous winter. One of the reasons has been the rock bottom prices offered by the owners of the guest houses in order to stimulate demand.
Yogev Sarid, the Manager of Economic and Business Development of the moshav movement, stressed the importance of matching the right vacation package to meet the demands of a specific clientele; for example the orthodox and religious movement travel widely around the country and have specific requirements of a guest house or small hotel.
At the conference of tour industry members held by the moshav movement, Anat Nissim, general manager of the Galilee Regional Tourist Board reported that despite the negative forecast, recent days of heavy rain had actually attracted many travelers to the Galilee area, keen to see the wild waters that had swollen the many rivers and streams in the area. As a result many guest houses reported full occupancy.
