El Al suing Ministry of Transportation & IAA

El Al demands that the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority refuse to allow BMI to double flights to Israel without first ensuring the authorization of the additional landing and takeoff slots at London’s Heathrow Airport; since this breaches the aviation agreement signed between Israel and the United Kingdom.

“We are prepared to compete with foreign airlines on a level footing, however, there is no way that the country will mislead Israeli companies and in particular El Al.” said an El Al spokesperson.  “The example of London is a clear case of inequality, where the foreign company is given preferential treatment in Israel, while the Israeli company does not receive what it deserves at the foreign airport.”

As mentioned a couple of months ago, the FAA in the United States lowered the aviation safety rating for the state of Israel to level 2.  El Al argues that the Ministry of Transport’s failure to resolve this issue has resulted in serious damage to the company’s operations.  “The civil aviation authority’s failure to respond has caused additional damage to El Al and has forced us to seek a legal remedy.”  BMI said that they would respond once they had examined the matter.
