Israir to start scheduled service to Milan

Israir have received authorization from Minister of Transport, Shaul Mofaz, to start operating a scheduled service to Milan.  For now Israir are preparing to operate the scheduled flight in cooperation with an Italian airline, in all probability Eurofly.

Israir is expected to change from the charter flights that currently operate on the Milan route, to  scheduled flights from this summer. In light of the recommendation of the Civil Aviation Authority to Mofaz to assign Israir as an approved carrier to Milan as well as to Stuttgart and Berlin, the company estimates that in 2009 they will operate to each of these destinations two or three flights a week and foresee that the passenger numbers on those routes will exceed 100,000.

According to Zohar Endelman, President and CEO of Israir, the airline is carrying out all of the requirements to start operating scheduled flights to Milan as soon as possible and for the benefit of the Israeli consumer.

As noted; during 2008 Israir was appointed as a carrier on flights to London and Rome.  According to the company, in light of the decision to make the Italian cities their main destinations, they requested from Mofaz that they should be allocated scheduled flights to Milan.

Endelman this week said: "we congratulate the Ministry of Transport on their decision to allocate the Milan route and we expect to receive additional European destinations".
