Israeli passengers enjoy benefits of Terminal 5

“The creation of Terminal 5 gave us a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to redefine the travelling experience for our passengers; by replacing endless queuing, congestion and stress, with space, light and calm.” said Yael Katan, the commercial manager of British Airways in Israel; following the recent public relations campaign in Europe and in Israel, to promote BA's new home.

According to Katan, so far the terminal has proved itself by providing a higher quality of service, especially in regards to flight punctuality and baggage reclaim.  “We want to encourage people to experience the terminal themselves”, she explained at the launch of the campaign.

Katan indicated that British Airways registered a significant improvement in punctuality of flight departures during the summer of 2008 compared to the summer of 2007.   “This positive trend continued in the following months compared to the same period in 2007.”

From the time that the Tel Aviv route moved to the new terminal (17th September 2008) more than 80,000 passengers have flown from Ben Gurion to Heathrow Terminal 5.  Since the opening of the terminal on 27th March 2008 up until January 2009, more than 17 million passengers on more than 110,000 flights used Terminal 5.   The 14th October 2008 is regarded as a landmark date in the operational history of British Airways with more than 95% of the flights departing Heathrow on time.

According to British Airways, the British Airports Authority (BAA) has reduced check in and security time at Terminal 5 and by September about 99.5% of the passengers at the terminal passed through the security checks within 5 minutes.  “Currently from the moment the plane touches down until the passenger leaves the terminal it takes only 20 minutes” reported a British Airways spokesman.
