Biometric system at the Taba crossing

The Israel Airport's Authority have announced that the new biometric system at the Taba crossing will allow passengers, who have already registered for the biometric system at Ben Gurion Airport, to use their pass cards on computerized stations and significantly reduce their waiting time at passport control.

The computerized stations will be installed at the entrance and exit of the crossing at a cost of 150,000 ILS.  The biometric system developed in Israeli has been working successfully for the last ten years at Ben Gurion Airport.  It has 700,000 registered users, all registered at the Ben Gurion free of charge.

The Taba crossing is located about 10 kilometres south of Eilat and serves mostly Israelis visitors to Sinai.  It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is the southernmost border between Israel and Egypt.   In 2008, 1.433 million people crossed the border at Taba – an increase of 25% compared to 2007.
