IAA reduces noise level at Ben Gurion Airport

The Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Giora Romm instructed the airport authorities to reduce excess noise levels recorded by the monitoring instruments placed around Ben Gurion Airport by two decibels. The amount of excess noise today fluctuates between 90-95 decibels for heavy aircraft and 87-93 decibels for other aircraft.

The Minister of Transport and Road Safety, Shaul Mofaz pointed out that reducing excess noise levels at Ben Gurion Airport is carried out as part of the ministry's policy to make the Israeli airport quieter which will be possible due to the airport's gradual transition to using quieter airplanes.

Beginning in 2002, take-offs and landings by aircraft with the quietest rating of stage 3 were permitted while airplanes with the noisier stage 2 rating were not allowed to operate at Ben Gurion Airport. It was indicated that according to international flight regulations, airplanes manufactured in 2006 must today maintain their noise rating at stage 4. The decision to reduce excess noise levels at Ben Gurion Airport will enable the location of airplanes deviating from the permissible limit from landing in Israel.
