El Al to pay on increased passengers

For the first time, El Al Airlines is examining the possibility of presenting travel agents with extra commission for meeting bi-annual targets based on annual growth in passenger numbers, and not on actual product sales, it was announced to Educational. Due to falling demand and a significant drop in flight prices, El Al is interested in encouraging travel agents to sell more flight tickets and packages in all departments and to all of its world destinations.

El Al was supposed to have presented travel agents with the new targets for 2009 a week ago, but it seems that owing to the new option, new targets will be presented in the coming days. The airline is aware of the possibility that the new model may cause economic loss to travel agents, but based on the influences of the economic crisis which have led to dramatic drops in business traffic – it appears there is no other alternative, but to implement it.

With the aim of increasing passenger traffic, last week, El Al launched a new price list of flights that is the harbinger of reduced fuel surcharges of 40-65%, reduced prices of leisure flights to short and mid-distance destinations by 7-15% and to long distance destinations by 14-30%.

El Al Airlines has responded by saying that the agreement is in the final stages and the details will be clarified as soon as they have been distributed to travel agents.
