Delta Airlines to operate 777 on NY-Tel Aviv route

Last month, with the head office's announcement to cancel plans to extend the route to Israel, Esti Herkowitz, the manageress of Delta in Israel, stated that they will consider increasing capacity on the Tel Aviv route in other ways, most likely by operating a larger airplane. "The situation doesn't seem positive at the moment, and after considering what to do for a month, this seems the best thing to do", Hershkowitz has since explained. However, she added that things could again change and take a more positive direction.

Recently, Delta has begun marketing additional seats on the 777 on the GDS (Global Distribution System) for travel agents and offering 30% larger capacity on its planes. "We have already said we believe in the Israeli market and we are doing everything we can in order to improve services for our customers", Esti Hershkowitz said today .

Delta Airlines has operated the Boeing 777 on the Atlanta-Tel Aviv route from the beginning and will now incorporate another 777 on the New York-Tel Aviv route. In 2008, Delta Airlines flew 270,288 passengers on the Israel route – an increase of 61% compared with 2007. Starting from last week, fuel surcharges have dropped by $66 to $108 and the ticket price for a flight on the Tel Aviv-New York route starts at $617 including taxes
