El Al reports $38.8 million loss for 2008
 
Israeli national carrier El Al reported a net loss of $38.8 million for 2008; compared to a profit of $44 million in 2007. But the company reported record revenue for the year of $2.1 billion up by 8.7 percent on 2007. The company put down much of their loss to the price of jet fuel which hit a record price of $147 a barrel in July.

10% fall in passenger traffic expected at Ben Gurion Airport during Passover
 
The Israel Airports Authority expects close to 445,000 passengers to pass through Ben Gurion Airport during this year’s Passover holiday; this is a 10 percent less than during Passover 2008. The busiest day of the holiday period is expected to be 12th April, when more than 42,000 passengers are expected to pass through Ben Gurion Airport.

El Al to fly 6 flights a week to Luton Airport
 
El Al has announced that they are to start flying 6 flights a week to London Luton Airport. El Al has taken the decision to increase flights to the UK capital for the summer season, in light of the competition with British Airways and bmi.

Dan Hotels show lower net profits in 2008 despite increased revenue
 
The Dan Hotel chain reported a fall in net profits by 32 million shekels from 136 million shekels in 2007 to 104 million shekels for 2008; this was despite increased revenue of 6.1 percent to 838 million shekels.

Nigel Turner, CEO of bmi said that despite a difficult year for everyone in the airline industry, the Tel Aviv route had proved to be a very successful one for the company “While we cannot make people travel business class, we will do all that we can to entice business travelers to use bmi.

El Al offers big discounts to Israelis living overseas
 
El Al, in cooperation with the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption is attempting to persuade Israelis living overseas; to visit Israel on the occasion of Israel’s 61st Independence Day; with heavily discounted air fares.
