El Al to double flights to Cairo
 
Despite the current world economic recession, El Al is planning to double their flight schedule to the Egyptian capital in order to satisfy the demands of pilgrims who include both Egypt and Israel in their visits to the Middle East.

Cruise ships bring pilgrims to the Holy Land
 
A group of 630 pilgrims from North America, Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland arrived in Israel this week on board a cruise ship. This is the first such arrival since cruises to the Holy Land were stopped with the outbreak of the Intifada in the year 2000.

Hotel revenues grow in 2008
 
Data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics shows that hotel revenues in Israel during 2008 were at their highest levels since the year 2000. The increase thanks largely to a 13 percent increase in revenue from overseas tourists.

Sun d’Or to operate 35 flights during the Passover holiday
 
Sun d’Or has announced that they intend to operate 35 flights during the Passover holiday to various overseas destinations. CEO of the company, Bezalel Karvat estimates that they will fly up to 12,000 passengers during the holiday period.

British Airways add extra flight to London
 
Despite the recession, British Airways are adding an extra flight on the Tel Aviv to London route from the beginning of June to meet customer demand. The flight from London will depart Thursday afternoon and the return from Tel Aviv on Friday lunchtime. British Airways will operate Boeing 777s on this flight.

Bank of Israel ignores incoming tourism
 
The Israel Incoming Tour Operators Association has expressed its disappointment that the economic program of the Bank of Israel and the Ministry of Finance ignores the contribution of incoming tourism to growth and employment.

EU: Israel’s aviation safety still category 1
 
The Ministry of Transport has advised that contrary to all rumours, the European Union commission has no plans to blacklist Israeli airlines. “The Civil Aviation Authority’s plan to reinstate Israel to category 1 has won the support from the Europeans.”

Israeli tourism slumps in January and February
 
Based on the data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS); the first two months of 2009 showed sharps declines in both incoming and outgoing tourism. Incoming tourism fell by 26%, while outgoing tourism was down by 20% percent compared to 2008.

Israir receives IOSA certification
 
Following audit safety checks carried out in the last few months, IATA has now awarded Israir the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) accreditation. An airline receiving this approval is internationally recognized as having met the highest safety standards in the aviation industry.

Sun d’Or prepares to fly to Dusseldorf
 
Sun d’Or has filed an application with the Ministry of Transport for approval of a scheduled flight to Dusseldorf. This will add to the increasing number of flights from Israel to Germany this summer. El Al in the past flew to Dusseldorf, one of the economic powerhouses in Germany.

Ministry of Tourism targets Russian tourism
 
Before departing for the MITT travel show in Moscow, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Shaul Zemach revealed that the marketing budget of 14 million shekels is required to minimize the damage caused to incoming tourism from Russia as a result of the global economic crisis and the military operation in Gaza. He added that despite these issues, there is still interest in Israel from the Russian wholesale agents.
