20,000 Israelis visit Hilton Taba hotel in 2008
 
Approximately 20 thousand Israelis visited the Hilton Taba resort and Nelson Village during 2008. A spokesperson for the hotel in Israel reported that according to a satisfaction survey, Israeli guests gave the hotel a good security rating.

Holiday Lines adds two new destinations in Germany
 
Holiday Lines Travel are offering direct charter flights this summer to two new destinations; Weeze and Friedrichshafen as well as to Berlin, Munich and Baden Baden. The flights will be operated by the German charter company Hamburg International and will start from the Shavuot holiday (end of May) until after Succoth (early October).

Dan Hotels plan for the Passover holiday
 
Dan Hotels plan for an increase in bookings as the Passover festival approaches. Currently occupancy levels for the holiday period at the Dan hotels in Eilat and Tel Aviv are at 80 percent with five weeks still to go until Passover. Rafi Beeri, Assistant Marketing Director: We should achieve 95 percent occupancy by Passover.

British Airways slash prices to London and North America
 
The price war is heating up for the Israeli traveler as British Airways announces significant reduction in the price of their air fares. Yael Katan: “The economic crisis, plus an increase in competition on the London route as well as a reduction in the market price of air tickets, has led us to make unprecedented price cuts."

El Al & foreign airlines fight over premium travelers
 
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, El Al is attempting to recruit business class passengers from a number of foreign airlines, using marketing activities, with information provided by local travel agents. The managers of a number of the airlines affected have responded by taking legal advice to check on the legitimacy of the matter.

Israel looking forward to the Pope’s visit
 
The Ministry of Tourism has begun its preparations for the upcoming visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Israel. Representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and senior members of the tourist industry met to discuss what actions are required. Ruhama Avraham: “The visit of the Pope presents a strategic opportunity to increase pilgrimages to Israel in the next few years.”

Ministry of Tourism recruits union heads to promote domestic tourism
 
Minister of Tourism, Ruhama Avraham and chairman of the new Histadrut labor federation, Ofer Eini will hold a special conference with the heads of the Workers Committees, to promote domestic tourism in Israel in light of the current economic crisis.

Sun d’Or to charge for upgraded services
 
In preparation for the summer season and the increase in number of flights to new locations, Sun d’Or is proposing to offer its passengers the option of upgrading to business class and to rental of DVD sets to its passengers. General Manager of Sun d’Or: “We are making an effort to increase the array of our services for a fee.”
