Lufthansa to resume flights to Munich from April
 
Lufthansa announced that they will resume flights on the Tel Aviv TO Munich route from the 26th April. There will be four weekly flights on the wide bodied Airbus A340-330 which can carry 221 passengers. In total there will be 18 Lufthansa flights a week between Germany and Israel.

Incoming tourism expected to fall 20% in 2009
 
In a survey of more than 200 members of the tourist industry, including hoteliers, travel agents, members of the aviation industry, tourist guides, restaurateurs, transport managers, results show that they expect 2009 to be a very tough year for tourism in Israel because of both the world economic crisis and the military operation in Gaza

Ethiopian begin flights to Mombasa
 
Ethiopian Airlines have advised that they intend to start operating direct flights from Addis Ababa to Mombasa, the second largest city in Kenya. The service which will start in June 2009 is being inaugurated in order to satisfy the demands of Israeli and foreign businessmen

32 percent rise in tourist groups in 2008
 
The Israel Incoming Tour Operators Association was established in 2009 among other things to promote the interests of Israels incoming tour operators. Following the record year for tourism in 2008, they met to discuss the significant fall in demand in 2009 caused by the world financial crisis and the military operation in Gaza

El Al’s new price list leads to increase in ticket sales
 
Eli Cohen, Vice President of Commercial & Industry Affairs, in a speech at Utravel in Ramat Gan. “During times of crisis you need to be creative, El Al is hungry and focused and will not allow travel agents who don’t agree on how we operate to obstruct our marketing methods.”

Fall of 18 percent in tourist hotel nights in January
 
Based on data released by the economic department of Israel Hotels Association, the military operation in Gaza resulted in a sharp downturn in tourist nights during January 2009. This was the first fall since the start of 2008. Hotels within a 40 km range of the Gaza Strip recorded a complete stop in services, apart from media and security personnel

El Al provide incentives to travel agents who recruit club members
 
El Al recently launched a new program offering agents and coordinators bonuses for providing them with the annual statistics of those business customers who travel on Lufthansa, Delta, Continental, British Airways and Turkish Airlines. A spokesperson for El Al: "We have not violated any ethical rules".
