Antitrust commissioner approves agreement between Arkia and C.A.L
 
Ronit Kan, director of the Antitrust Authority, decided to approve the agreement between C.A.L and Arkia, allowing for the purchase of cargo space on Arkia’s passenger flights, on the grounds that it will not harm the competition.

Increase in tourist hotel nights for the first time this year
 
According to data from the Hotels Association, October 2009 was the first month this year that recorded an increase in tourist hotel nights. The number of hotel nights for Israeli guests also increased and was up by 13 percent.

Rimonim Hotels report profit of 1.4 million shekels in the 3rd Quarter
 
The Rimonim Hotel chain reported a profit of 1.4 million shekels in the 3rd quarter of the year, compared to a profit of 1.05 million in the same period last year. Year to date revenues totaled 102.6 million shekels an increase of 5 percent over last year.

20% increase in international passenger traffic expected on charter flights to Eilat
 
The Israel Airports Authority is expecting a 20 percent increase in the number of international passengers arriving on charter flights to the airports in Eilat and Ovda during this coming winter. This is despite an expected reduction in the number of aircraft movement.

Ministry of Tourism to invest 15 million shekels to develop tourist infrastructure in Jerusalem
 
The Ministry of Tourism has announced that it intends to invest an amount of 15 million shekels during 2010 in order to develop the tourism infrastructure in Jerusalem and to promote tourist events and support domestic tourism in the city. The Israeli capital is the focus of the new work plan recently introduced by the Ministry of Tourism.

El Al likely to join BSP system in January 2010
 
El Al is expected to join IATA’s settlement system after a number of delays and postponements. In the last few days El Al sent a message to IATA telling them of their intentions; but are yet to announce anything to the travel agents. IATA refused to comment on the matter.

Aviation Links report third quarter profits
 
Aviation Links has reported on profits of $1.4 million in the 3rd quarter of the year, this compares to a profit of $2.6 million in the corresponding period last year. Revenues in the quarter totaled $51 million, compared to $68 million in the same quarter last year. The board of directors approved the distribution of a dividend totaling half a million dollars.

Cyprus encourages Israel to operate low cost flights to the island
 
A delegation headed by the Minister of Tourism of Cyprus visited Israel in order to strengthen tourist links between the two countries. Director General for the Cyprus Tourist Organisation, Phoebe Katsouris: “We have received excellent feedback from Israeli wholesalers and we promise to improve efficiency.”

Tourist groups from Ukraine to receive visas within 48 hours
 
Tourists from Ukraine who plan to visit Israel will benefit from the trial program being launched by the Ministry of Tourism, which plans to speed up the issue of tourist visas from the current 10 days down to 2 days. The aim of the trial is to make Israel a more accessible destination.

bmi to stop flying to Israel
 
bmi, the second largest operator from London Heathrow has announced changes to its list of destinations, including the suspension of its services to a number of cities, among them Tel Aviv, Kiev, Amsterdam and Brussels.
