El Al intensifies the competition by launching “London Month”
 
El Al has announced the launch of a new sales promotion called “London Month” offering passenger’s tickets to London starting at $399 with a range of additional offers. At the beginning of the month EasyJet launched its service to Israel, with six weekly flights on the London to Tel Aviv route.

Minister of Transport approves Arkia flights from Eilat to Saint Petersburg
 
The Minister of Transport, Yisrael Katz approved Arkia’s request to operate scheduled flights for the first time between Eilat and Saint Petersburg. Katz: "The appointment of a carrier to Saint Petersburg will help to increase tourism to Eilat, a desired destination for Russian tourists."

British Airways reduces capacity for the winter season
 
British Airways has been forced to reduce the number of seats on the route to Tel Aviv, by operating two Boeing 767 aircraft instead of the traditional Boeing 777. British Airways: “Despite the change of aircraft type, the cabin alignment will remain the same.”

11% increase in scheduled flights expected to and from Israel this winter
 
According to data from the Israel Airports Authority, it is expected that during this coming winter there will be an 11 percent growth in the number of foreign airlines operating flights to and from Israel. Six new airlines have joined the list of those flying to Israel, while three airlines have announced a reduction in the number of flights.

El Al appoint new head of marketing
 
El Al has appointed Eyal Shavit as the new head of marketing. Shavit replaces Amit Livni who recently resigned from his position at El Al. Shavit (30) holds a law degree and studied business administration. Eli Cohen: “With his experience, it is certain that Eyal will contribute much to El Al.”

Air France-KLM appoint new general manager in Israel
 
In the coming days a new general manager will be appointed representing the Air France-KLM group in Israel. Vivian Del Mas replaces Patick Amar who completes a four and a half year tenure in the role. Amar returns to the company’s headquarters in Paris where he will be in responsible for international cooperation.

October at Ben Gurion Airport: US once again the leading destination
 
According to data from the Israel Airports Authority, a total of 1,109,947 passengers passed through Ben Gurion Airport during October on 8,225 international and domestic passenger flights. International passenger traffic stood at 1,068,906 in October, this represents a 1.52 percent increase compared to October 2008.

Tourism conference looks for ways to attract tourists to Israel
 
The recent Herzliya tourism conference recruited experts from the industry in order to discuss ways of increasing tourist traffic to Israel; the measures are complicated but there is no shortage of diagnoses: Tourist police will be established and hotels will be graded by international organizations according to the principles of consumer protection.

Minister of Transport: Decision on location of new airport for Eilat expected in days
 
At a conference on aviation matters held in Herzliya, Minister of Transport Katz said that the alternative to establishing a joint airport between Israel and Jordan in Aqaba, as has been suggested in the past and which is impractical today; is the speedy construction of a new airport close to the city of Eilat.
