Ben Gurion Airport expect 840,000 passengers during the holy day period
 
The Israel Airports Authority announced their forecast with the approach of the High Holy Day period: About 840,000 passengers are expected to pass through Ben Gurion Airport, similar to the number last year. A 5 percent increase is expected in aircraft movement. Chairman of the Authority: “We will continue our special preparations at Ben Gurion Airport in order to ensure the free flow of passengers in and out of the country during the period of the High Holy Days.

El Al tries to attract groups
 
El Al is holding a special fair in order to promote group bookings to all of its destinations. Participating in this event will be aviation route managers, service managers and senior personnel from Air Tour and Sun d’Or. El Al’s message to tour organizers: “We invite you and your employees to come with ideas and group requests and we will do the best of our ability to meet your requests.”

Ministry of Tourism: New tourism agreement with Mongolia

Haim Romano to leave El Al in 2010
 
In an official announcement released by the management of El Al it was reported that the management and Romano reached an agreement to end his term as Chief Executive Officer, however his contract ensures that he will continue to receive a salary for 18 months as in the case of dismissal.

40% increase in consumer complaints regarding outgoing tourism
 
The Israeli Consumer Council has reported a 40 percent increase in the number of complaints received from consumers in outgoing tourism this summer, compared to the same period last year. Most of the complaints received involved indirect sales transactions.

Swiss CEO in Israel: No signs of recovery from the global aviation crisis
 
Avner Gordon, the manager of Swiss International in Israel is of the opinion that the crisis in the aviation industry is still far from over: “There is a new trend that says that the recovery is underway, unfortunately this is too optimistic. Corporations are the ones with their fingers on the pulse and they are the ones that will know when the recovery arrives.”

Travel agents claim against Lufthansa likely to be dropped
 
The chairman of the Association of Travel Agents will be able to present the law suit in the name of the travel agents; this is what transpired following discussions held at the district court in Petach Tikva, in the case of the Israel Travel Agents Association against the Lufthansa Group as a result of the cancellation of 7 percent basic commission.

British Airways reduces the fuel surcharge on the London-Tel Aviv route
 
British Airways has announced a reduction on the fuel surcharge on the London to Tel Aviv route. At present the fare for a ticket in economy class on the route starts at $432, a reduction of $64.

Weak dollar upsets Israeli hoteliers
 
Rafi Ferber, Vice President of the Hotels Association: “a visit and stay in Israel is becoming more expensive for the tourist who pays in dollars and this is exactly at a time of world recession. We feel the dollar is like a merry-go-round, in these conditions it is impossible to plan long term exports and help the economy to prosper.”

August 2009: Turkey in first place with 12.6% of operations at Ben Gurion Airport
 
According to the data from the Israel Airports Authority, during August a total of 1.46 million passengers passed through Ben Gurion Airport on 9,906 international and internal passenger flights. International passenger traffic during the month stood at 1.42 million passengers, an increase of 6 percent compared to August 2008. Since the start of the year passenger traffic to Turkey fell by 39 percent.

El Al to stop paying commission on basic economy service
 
El Al has announced that from the 1st October 2009 they will cease paying basic commission of 7 percent to travel agents on the sale of tickets in ‘El Al Basic’ class.
