El Al launch new class: Economy Basic
 
El Al has announced the launch of a new cabin class called Economy Basic. To start with the service will operate as a pilot scheme on its flights. El Al: “For now this service is only available through a link called “El Al Spontaneous” found on travel agents internet sites.”

Leonardo Hotel opens in Tel Aviv
 
The owners of the Fattal hotel chain held a press conference at the new Leonardo Hotel which opened in the last few days in the Ramat Hahayal area of Tel Aviv at a cost of 130 million shekels. David Fattal: “In recent years the commercial centers of the big cities have actually become areas where boutique hotels have flourished.”

Slump in hotel tourist nights continues
 
According to data from the Israel Hotels Association, since the start of the year a fall of 27 percent has been recorded in the number of tourist hotel nights. The number of hotel nights from Israeli guests increased by 3 percent. Hotels in the capital recorded the largest falls. Director General of the Hotel Association: “The mission for now is to stop the falls and to reverse the trend by means of marketing activities.”

El Al raises the price of long haul flights
 
El Al has announced an increase in the price of its long haul direct flight to Sao Paolo and to other destinations in South America from 2nd August. El Al: “Until recently, despite the continuing increase in the cost of aviation fuel, we had avoided raising the price of airline tickets to South America.”

Thai delegation in Israel to examine security related technologies
 
The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor revealed that three senior officials from Thailand arrived in Israel in order to examine technology so that a new civilian terminal can be built at a military airport near to Bangkok. Data for the first half of 2009 shows a 26 percent drop in exports to Thailand.

Jet2.com to double its flights to Israel
 
The low cost carrier Jet2.com has announced that it will continue to operate direct flights on the Manchester to Tel Aviv route. From March 2010 it will start operating two weekly flights. Jet2.com CEO: “The route to Tel Aviv proves the success of the Jewish community in the north of England.

Israir planning scheduled flights to Switzerland
 
Israir has announced that it intends to operate regular flights to Switzerland in light of recommendations from the management of Israeli civil aviation authority to appoint an additional leading carrier between the two countries. Israir: “This is now in the planning stage and details and flight times will be published in due course.”

Labor federation announces work dispute with El Al
 
The Histadrut Labor Federation announced a work dispute with El Al following claims that El Al violated the conditions of the agreement signed at the end of 2008 and the failure of management to increase efficiency. El Al: “The management is convinced that the workers committee understands very well that the declaration of a labor dispute serves no purpose.”

Cruise ships to return to Israel in the autumn
 
After many years when the massive cruise ships were absent from Israeli ports, during September the cruise ship ‘Vision of the Seas’ will anchor in Israel during an 11 night cruise. The representative for Royal Caribbean in Israel, Uri Schnabel: “2009 is a landmark year for the leading American cruise ship companies.”

El Al & Condor to sign cooperation agreement
 
The German airline Condor, owned by the British travel group Thomas Cook, is expected to sign an agreement of cooperation in the coming days with El Al. The German company is represented in Israel by Open Sky. Itzik Pozmantir: “I can confirm that we are close to signing an agreement.”

Tel Aviv-Yafo Tourist Association: New city guide in English
 
The Tel Aviv-Yafo Tourist Association announced the launch of a new city tour guide published in English called ‘Visit Tel Aviv-Yafo’, which is intended for overseas tourists visited the city this summer.

Delta Airlines to reduce capacity on the Atlanta-Tel Aviv route
 
The American airline Delta has announced a reduction in the number of flights per week on the route from Atlanta to Tel Aviv from 7 to 4, during the period from October until March. Delta: “The Company continues to operate daily flights from Tel Aviv to New York and remains positive about the Israeli market.
