Utravel sign agreement with Expedia
 
The Utravel travel agency network has announced an agreement with Expedia, the huge online tour company. As part of the agreement, Utravel will integrate the Hotels.com reservation system, owned by Expedia, into their offices. Integration of the systems will cost Utravel 150,000 shekels.

Noaz Bar Nir appointed Director General of the Ministry of Tourism
 
The government has confirmed the appointment of Noaz Bar Nir as the new Director General of the Ministry of Tourism. Bar Nir\'s appointment officially comes into effect from the 1st June; following the completion of the handover period with outgoing former Director General Shaul Zemach. Zemach has been appointed as Director General of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Towns surrounding Ben Gurion fight night flights
 
The heads of regional councils have called on the Ministers of Transport and the Environmental Protection to oppose the bill which proposes arrangements for night time departures from Ben Gurion Airport, contrary to the decision of the government back in 1997. Gil Livneh, the head of the council for the town of Shoham commented that Ben Gurion Airport is open 20 hours a day, with noise pollution that disturbs the local population. This nuisance should be balanced and there should be at least 4 hours of quiet during the night.

Arkia proposes on board advertising
 
Arkia announced that it proposes to designate an area inside their aircraft as well as on the baggage conveyor belts for advertising. It is anticipated that this move will generate about 3 million shekels a year. Arkia: “Part of the income is intended to fund free benefits to Arkia customers.”

Airline revenues slump by 30% in April
 
Airline revenues on routes to Israel declined by 30 percent in April compared to the same period last year. This was caused by the large number of discounts offered by the airlines. Based on the data shortly to be released, there was a 9 percent fall in passenger traffic during April.

Minister of Tourism promises to enhance tourism for the orthodox community
 
Minister of Tourism, Stas Misezhnikov, said that the Ministry of Tourism will begin promoting the grave of Rabbi Shimon bar Yohai to the orthodox communities, in order to realize the potential of the site, where a million tourists visit each year.

New archealogical garden opens at the Knesset
 
An archaeological garden dubbed “Peace be within thy Palaces – Jerusalem Antiquities at the Israel Knesset” was recently opened at the Israel Knesset. The garden, open to the public, will serve as a retreat from the bustling activities of the Knesset. Entry is free upon prior arrangement with the Knesset.
