VP of Lufthansa sees great potential in the Munich-Tel Aviv route
 
Joachim Steinbach, Vice President for Sales & Services for Luthansa in Southeast Europe, Africa, Middle East and Pakistan, arrived in Israel for the launch of the service between Munich and Tel Aviv after a six year break.

Go-Galil conference to take place in September
 
From 10th-14th September, the Galilee Development Authority in cooperation with the local tourist associations will show off the attractions and sites of the area to travel agents and wholesalers from overseas. This international tourism event is intended to promote incoming tourism to the region.

VAT exemptions to be cancelled for foreign tourists?
 
Eli Gonen, President of the Israel Hotels Association commented on the proposal of the Treasury to cancel the VAT exemption for foreign tourists on hotel accommodation and car hire, with the aim of saving 500 million shekels. Gonen said "An additional 15.5 percent on an existing tourism package, will severely harm our ability to compete and will result in making Israel an irrelevant destination to many."

Hotel chains to cooperate on tourist packages
 
The Tamares and Rimonim hotel chains, with thousands of hotel rooms throughout the country, are planning to offer joint packages to tourists. The two chains will offer barmitzvah packages, romantic packages and spa packages at their hotels in Herzliya, Safed and Tiberias.

Plans to convert Eilat into leading tourist center
 
In advance of a meeting due to take place with the ministerial committee for the Treasury on the subject of tourism as an engine to economic growth, the mayor of Eilat, Meir Yitzhak Halevy presented Minister of Tourism Stas Misezhnikov with a three point strategic plan to convert the center of Eilat into the "urban center of the Red Sea."

Turkish Hoteliers to visit Israel
 
In the next few weeks representatives of the 30 largest hotels in Antalya are expected in Israel as part of an initiative by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism to support Israeli tourism to Turkey. Since relations chilled between the two countries there has been a slump in Israeli tourists visiting Turkey.

Minister of Tourism: "Successful marketing halts slowdown in incoming tourism"
 
Minister of Tourism, Stas Misezhnikov announced that the perennial program for the tourist industry that is being formulated in the coming weeks will focus on marketing initiatives; stressing the importance of tourism as an important source of growth for the economy.
