Delta Airlines to operate 777 on NY-Tel Aviv route
 
Delta Airlines, who within the past two months announced their intention to extend their series of flights to Israel to 18 weekly flights and was forced to retract the announcement due to a decision by the head office to optimize routes, will begin operating a Boeing 777 on the New York-Tel Aviv route instead of a Boeing 767 this summer.

Lufthansa to operate Munich-Tel-Aviv
 
The Ministry of Transport announced that Israel and Germany have come to an agreement whereby both parties can nominate two scheduled airlines to operate passenger flights to every destination between Israel and Germany. Similar agreements have recently been signed with Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, France, Slovakia, Russia, South America, Italy, and the Ukraine

El Al to pay on increased passengers
 
For 2009, El Al Airlines is examining the possibility of rewarding travel agents for increasing passenger numbers and not for their sales as has been the case up until now. El Al is supposed to present travel agents with its bi-annual target structure in the coming days.

Amikam Cohen appointed as Chairman of El Al
 
Amikam Cohen the ex-chairman of Partner Communications is replacing Amnon Lipkin-Shahak who has held the role of acting Chairman of El Al. Cohen will continue to act as an advisor to Partner. His new role with El Al will take effect from 1st February 2009

Israeli Hoteliers: Gaza operation paralyses tourism to Israel
 
The owners of the large hotel chains paint a grim picture for tourism as a result of the operation in Gaza and the Worldwide economic crisis. Following a meeting of a marketing committee of the Israel Hotel Association, reported the Marketing Managers of the Hotel chains, regional managers of the Hotel Association and managers of the individual hotels on low hotel occupancies. Almost a complete halt in reservations as well as cancellations

El Al prepare for first direct flights to Brazil
 
Minister of Tourism Ruhama Avraham Balila and El Al Chief Executive Officer, Haim Romano held a press conference last Wednesday for South American journalists at the Israeli booth at Fitur – The tourism fair held in Madrid. The purpose of the meeting: To encourage South American tourists to visit Israel.

Ministry of Tourism to invest 26 million ILS in marketing activities
 
With the shadow of the Worldwide economic crisis and repercussions following the conflict in Gaza, the Ministry of Tourism will next week start the first phase of marketing Israel to the World for 2009. Minister Ruhama Avraham-Balila "Without an approved annual budget and immediate additional budgetary contingencies from the government, it will not be possible to make tourist traffic returns to Israel as were achieved in 2008."

Number of tourists nights increases by 21% in 2008
 
According to data from the Central Statistics Bureau, 21.6 million overnight stays in hotels were recorded in Israel in 2008 – an increase of 21% compared with 2007. Out of these, 10.2 million stays were by tourists. In December, 2008, 1.5 million overnight stays in hotels were recorded – 41% by tourists.

IAA reduces noise level at Ben Gurion Airport
 
The Civil Aviation Authority has decided to bring down excess noise levels at Ben Gurion Airport; Mofaz: Reducing excess noise levels is being carried out as part of a policy by the Ministry of Transport to make the Israeli airport quieter.

Biometric system at the Taba crossing
 
The Israel Airports Authority have started to operate a biometric system at passport control at the Taba border crossing. According to Kobi Mor, the Chairman of the Airport\'s Authority the biometric system is expected to significantly improve the service for passengers crossing the border at Taba and speed up the procedure for incoming and outgoing travellers.
